Questions about Scarlet fiber

Nowadays, the average household has more and more devices connected to the internet. Working from home, streaming, gaming… it can all put pressure on your connection. With fiber, you can say goodbye to annoying slowdowns and dropouts. Your internet stays stable, no matter how many people are online or what they are doing.

Why switch to fiber?

  • Because the copper network is gradually being phased out.
  • Because fiber is faster, more stable and built to last.
  • Because it gets your connection ready for the future, without any unnecessary hassle.

And with Scarlet, you switch to fiber without changing your subscription or your price.

With fiber, everyday digital life simply becomes more comfortable. Here is what changes for you:

  • A more stable internet connection
No matter how many people are connected at home, your connection stays more reliable. So no more interruptions when you are watching your favourite film or series.
  • Sharper image quality on your screens
Whether you watch content on your TV, tablet or smartphone, fiber gives you a clearer and sharper picture.
  • Ready for the future
The current copper network is gradually disappearing. By moving to fiber already now, you are set for many years to come.
  • A more eco-friendly network
With fiber technology, data transmission can use up to 12 times less energy than through a copper cable. Not bad for something that also improves your connection.

It is important to know that fiber installation happens in two phases.

Fiber optic installation in your street

At this stage, you do not need to do anything. Proximus technicians work street by street to install fiber optic cables throughout the neighbourhood.

In most cases, the cables are installed discreetly along the façade of your house or building, together with a small black connection box. But in some situations, Proximus technicians may need to route the cable underground through a trench.

Connecting your home to the fiber network

When you place an order for one of our subscriptions, we first check whether your address is eligible for fibre. If it is, your product will automatically be connected to the fiber network.

Here is how it works:

  1. A technician comes to your home on the date you selected in advance.
  2. They bring the fiber optic cable into your home and, if needed, carefully drill a small hole through the façade.
  3. The cable is then routed to the place where you want your modem to be installed, and a connection box is placed nearby.
  4. The technician connects your different devices, such as your TV, computer and other equipment, to the fiber network.
  5. Finally, they test your connection speed and make sure your Wi-Fi is working properly.

The installation usually takes between 2 and 4 hours. The good news is that your connection will only be interrupted for a short moment, so you can continue your day without stress.
