What changes with Peppol e-invoicing for your bills?

Starting 1 January 2026, all bills between Belgian companies must be sent electronically via the European Peppol network. This new system speeds up your accounting, reduces errors, and improves both security and transparency.
Once your business is linked to Peppol, your Scarlet bills will be delivered through the same channel. Don’t worry they’ll still be available in MyScarlet too.

Who needs to use Peppol?

  • Does your company have a Belgian VAT number? If so, starting 1 January 2026, electronic invoicing via the Peppol network becomes legally required. This applies to both bills you send and receive between Belgian businesses.
  • If your company has a foreign VAT number or isn’t VAT-registered, using Peppol remains optional but still possible.

Yes, if the bill is issued to a Belgian company with a VAT number, Peppol is required, even if the services are mixed.

Yes, as long as the bill is addressed to a Belgian VAT-registered company, it falls under the obligation.

How does Peppol work for your Scarlet bills?

Once your company is connected to the Peppol network, bills from Scarlet and from other suppliers, will be delivered automatically to your accounting software or managed directly by your accountant.

Yes. Just like bills, credit notes are issued through Peppol and will appear directly in your accounting tool, without any extra steps.

Yes. As today, items purchased via Scarlet but provided by external partners (such as parking, tickets, or games) will continue to appear on separate documents and sent through Peppol too.

That depends on your setup. Some accounting tools send an automatic email alert for every new bill you receive.

For your Scarlet bills, you can receive a text message. To receive text message notifications, surf to MyScarletOpens a new window and check text message notification. If your preferred mobile phone number isn't listed, please contact us.

You can still view your bills via MyScarlet.
You can download them in 2 formats:

  • A PDF-file: a readable version.
  • A UBL/XML-file the official electronic version used in Peppol, available since 1 July 2025, and also accessible through your accounting software

How to pay Scarlet bills when using Peppol

No change needed. You can continue to pay the usual way, by direct debit, bank transfer, or using the payment button via MyScarlet. Peppol does not affect your payment methodOpens a new window .

Yes, your existing direct bebitOpens a new window remains in place. There’s no need to update or modify anything. Payments will continue to be processed automatically.

If a bill isn’t paid by the due date, you’ll get a reminderOpens a new window via SMS. If needed, we’ll also follow up by email and by letter as a last resort.

How are issues related to Peppol resolved?

The switch to Peppol doesn't change anything about that process. You may disputeOpens a new window a bill in the same way as before.

The Peppol file (with UBL or XML extension) can only be read in your accounting software. You didn't receive the bill on Peppol? Then check with your accountant or service provider. If necessary, upload the file manually. You can open the PDF version in MyScarlet and print it out if necessary.

Companies are responsible for making your own arrangements to switch to Peppol. The government's websiteOpens a new window explains how to do so and outlines any possible consequences.

Proximus will continue to send monthly bills to your company. We’ll keep sending them to you the same way you receive them now. Please settle them on time and update your accounts for Peppol as soon as possible.
